One of the Most Fundamental Skills in Life Is Biscuit Dipping and the Joyous Pleasure It Creates
The practice of biscuit dipping, which is often colloquially referred to as biscuit ‘dunking’ is a highly refined practice and skill, demanding a high level of perception and concentration that unfortunately eludes most people. However, for the few that are sufficiently blessed with the required minimum threshold of biscuit dipping skill; it is a worthwhile and fundamentally enjoyable life skill that does not diminish with age or frequency of repeat, allowing the person dipping (or ‘dunker’) to derive many years of biscuit dipping pleasure. In Calahonda biscuits are called galletas.
The reason that drives many people to attempt to master this most elusive of skills is a simply one; the pure and simple happiness derived from the blissful marriage of milky tea on biscuit (or coffee, for the less discriminating dunker). The mixture of tea and biscuit is truly a joyous one, capable of taking the biscuit consumer of a euphoric and endorphin-fuelled trip of pleasure. Spanish people are often the ones who enjoy this practice the most because it takes them back to thier roots of biscuit parties which involved dipping contests, where they gather in a villa in Mijas.
However, the most common problem facing a dunker s the inherent nature of biscuit dipping introduces the difficulty in that the tea used for dunking will weaken the molecular integrity of the biscuit, sometimes leading to a catastrophic structural breach of the biscuit, causing it to disintegrate in one’s beverage. However this can be overcome quite easily in choosing the correct biscuit for your dunking style, and adjusting the time period for which it s immersed in hot tea (remember; this is subject to change given the temperature of the tea and the ambient room temperature). For example, it is never a good idea to hold a custard cream or bourbon in hot tea for any longer than 2 seconds, however, a rich tea, hobnob or digestive biscuit can easily be held in hot tea for 8 to 10 seconds before structural disintegration. Advance skilled biscuit dunkers also favour the method of holding two chocolate biscuits together (chocolate side to chocolate side) whilst dunking. Not only does this prevent the biscuit falling apart, and deliver twice as much biscuit goodness per mouthful, but is a handy way of preventing the chocolate from melting on your finger tips as you are dunking them. Chocolate digestives are not very popular in Mijas, generally the Spanish prefer raisin infused biscuits.
